The PR Guy

Ok, I’m going to be up front about who I am. I’m David Greenwood and I handle the public relations for American Profit Recovery. PR isn’t a bad thing. And when you’re representing a company like APR, it can be a fun assignment. I’m here to show everyone just how different APR is.

It’s no secret the collection industry is riddled with bad apples and APR from day one, has tried very hard to change that perception. I would call that PR 101. A bunch of smart guys if you ask me…They were well on their way long before I came on the scene. We’ve just tried to make more people aware of their philosophy. I have found them to be very focused on their ethics, their standards and conducting business in a very professional manner. They treat each customer and I might add each debtor with the utmost respect. That is what separates them from most in the collection industry. Continue reading »

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer – Update!!!!

MI Team

For the first time, American Profit Recovery participated in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in 3 states this October.  Teams in Charlotte, Detroit and Boston combined for 81 walkers and $3,845 raised!!!!

Getting involved with our community to support various causes is just one way we teach our motto:  You’ll Profit From Our Difference.  This walk allowed us to do so with our time and our money.

Representatives from our Collection team, Admin team, Sales Dept, IT Dept and over 40 family members and friends jumped on the bandwagon to support this outstanding cause by walking either 3 or 5 mile courses.  Our blue shirts with pink ribbons really stood out on the course! Continue reading »

Sacrifice: You’ll Profit From Your Difference Too

I began my career at APR as a debt collector in 2005 as a grad student working days in construction management. Jen, my soon to be fiancé at the time, and I we’re living in a 1,200 square foot studio rental in Clarkston.

From the minute I walked into APR I was sold; on the company, the vision, that fact that this collection agency was a start-up, and most of all on the people. I wanted to work for a guy like Barry Jennings and a company that didn’t make unfounded promises like so many other companies offering positions and promising the world.

Opportunity is the only promise I was made; not a six figure salary, not a definitive promotion, not overnight wealth or a 40 hour workweek with endless PTO. It was simple logic; the people who work the hardest, and the hardest the longest, will benefit the most. That’s it, that’s all. I was sold. Continue reading »

Debt Collectors in a tux?!?!

Check out this article I ran across about the techniques that debt collectors are using in Spain.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122369424667425525.html?mod=todays_us_nonsub_page_one

I’m not sure how much of this you could get away with in the US, but it amazing what other countries allow.  One can understand why the US government enacted the FDCPA for collection agencies to follow.  In Spain it seems that intimidation and disgrace are the two techniques that get results.  Since legally and morally these aren’t options for us, at APR we preach two other techniques that yield results.  Early intervention and diplomacy.  Many times the hardest part of getting a debt collected is just simply getting the one who owes you to the table.  Early intervention and diplomacy both have a huge effect on whether this happens or not.  These seem like simple concepts, but too many businesses ignore them.  They bill month after month, wondering why they aren’t getting paid and then they finally turn it over to a collection agency for hard core collections.  When you take steps early, you can let the customer know the seriousness of the issue, be diplomatic, and resolve the issue with out losing the customer. Enjoy the article!

Meet Al Scott

Father.  Grandfather.  Husband.  Deacon.  Veteran.  Debt Collector.  These are the many hats of Al Scott.

Al spent over 35 years in the banking industry after serving our country in the Korean Conflict.  He served his community as a Selectman, Lodge Member, and on several positions supporting various charities.  After retiring and spending time at home with his wife Frances, Al decided he wasn’t quite ready to stop working.  Al Joined our MA team in the fall of 2006 as a Collector in our Tier II division.  He is the antithesis of how our media and culture have chosen to portray a debt collector.

Al aligns with every single value APR is built on.  Work ethic.  Integrity.  Personality.  He believes in the good in people and in working with consumers who have come across hard times to resolve their debt.  His goal – get our clients back what is owed to them.  But how?  With kindness and humility and a kind ear.

Co-worker.  Guidance Counselor.  Team Member.  Friendly face.  Jokester.  Role model.  Just some of the roles Al plays at APR for those of us lucky enough to work with him.  Have you met Al Scott?  Every day I’m thankful I have.
