The Noble Profession

It has been articulated that Debt Collectors are revered in company with Lawyers and Morticians. This resolute, as pedantic as it may resound, rings true with the overwhelming majority of consumers, those who are current on their lines of credit and those for whom delinquency is a mainstay.  The fact is, the preponderance of Collection Agencies are of an ethical, responsible, and professional métier; operating within state mandates, following guidelines of a Congressional act, and regulated by some of the most influential government offices in the country. 

With all of these governances there are still the outliners.  Companies, like within so many other industries, that operate at the fringes.  These bad apples, who function solely out of greed, or ignorance, or both, may tarnish some proactive attempts from organizations making great strides in consumer education and ethical debt resolution techniques, but will not thwart or offset all our efforts.

Without mistake, collections is an undertaking.  An undertaking in a profession constantly scrutinized by the media, particularly in a recessed economy; continually critiqued by attorneys looking to make a place for themselves in a “cottage industry;” and frequently denounced by consumers desperate for relief from their predicaments of indebtedness.  When the smoke clears the survivors will be the reputable companies, the charitable companies, those who persist in a challenging industry wrought with opposition from all sides.  Prevailing moral character transcends both time and tribulation.
